Profile

I like to consider myself a hard-working, punctual, and diligent person. Whatever task I am given I like to carry it out with care and precision. I currently work in a self-directed environment, working remotely, where I am largely responsible for prioritising and scheduling my own work as well as liaising with suppliers, third-parties, vendors, etc to meet our customers deadlines. I have worked several other customer facing jobs in the past which has given me an appreciation for how to interact with customers of all backgrounds, abilities, and beliefs in a courteous and professional manner.

I am highly technically proficient with knowledge and experience administering diverse systems, including Windows Server, Linux, Apple Mac, and BSD. I am a certified Sophos Architect as well as Microsoft 365 Certified. I have vendor-agnostic experience building, maintaining, and securing networks ranging from a few computers, to large-scale manufacturing plants. I have also built and helped maintain application environments such as Microsoft Exchange, Terminal Services, etc. I am experienced in deploying and administering virtual platforms such as ESXi both in small deployments and in the datacenter.

Outside of work, I enjoy all things related to technology particularly collecting and repairing old computers and other assorted pieces of tech. I also love keeping abreast of the newest innovations too and regularly read various trade websites. I also have a firm love of History – having studied it for my degree. I still enjoy reading up on my favourite subjects and try to keep up with the latest papers and research. Though, my biggest love is self-improvement – I love to learn about new subjects and pick up new skills.

Experience

  • Infrastructure Engineer, BCC IT Ltd, Newcastle Emlyn — 2022-Present

    As a member of the infrastructure team at a growing MSP I have worn many hats. My duties range from project management, to assisting with server deployments, network administration including the deployment of next-gen firewalls, to high-level diagnostics. My role has also included a specialisation in Cybersecurity & Compliance work, including Vulnerability Scanning & Remediation, Cyber Essentials (Both Basic & Plus), IASME Level 1 & 2, PCI-DSS, and ISO 27001 Policy Creation. I regularly lead assessment projects, both for clients and internally, including preparation work, scheduling, leading the assessor, and preforming project postmortems. On average I am involved with at least one assessment a month, and have completed successfully over 50 assessments! I assist with the technical side of our ISO 27001, 14001, & 9001 certification, both by writing and maintaining policies, assisting with internal audits, setting up policy tests, and presenting evidence to external assessors. I have experience supporting clients in both On-Premises and cloud environments, including Microsoft 365 / Azure. I also act as a 3rd Line escalation point for our Helpdesk.

    I have provided some IT consultancy to local business proving everything from advice on IT purchases, to cabling work, to providing advice on PCI compliance.

  • Customer Experience Leader, McDonalds, Aberystwyth — 2018 - 2022

    As a Customer Experience Leader I lead a very busy and faced paced restaurants Customer Experience team. This involved leading and directing the front of house staff in their duties, greeting all customers as they arrive and depart, dealing with all customer complaints - including fee backing complaints to the kitchen so we can maintain quality standards -, and maintaining the cleanliness standards expected of the chain. During this time I helped support us breaking several sales records, as well as increasing the scores for cleanliness and customer experience every year during our inspection.

  • Academic Representative - MA Pre-20th Century, Aberystwyth University Union, Aberystwyth — 2017 - 2018

    Here I represented the views of my fellow students in the departmental Student-Staff Consultative Committee, in which my fellow representatives and me help shape the courses we attend and, to some extent, departmental policy.

  • Cleaning Operative, Aberystwyth University, Aberystwyth — 2017 - 2018

    As a Cleaning Operative at the university I worked with a team of cleaners on the early morning shift to maintain standards of cleanliness in both the on-campus sport areas, and several academic areas on the Penglais campus. My role there required me to work both as part of a team and as an individual, and also required me to make excellent use of problem solving skills.
